Tell Them of Us - The Forgotten War - Burma

a young conscript who fought in Burma with the 25th Dragoons in the 14th
(Forgotten) Army during World War II.
John Leyin was eighteen when called up. His overseas posting took him to Egypt and onto India, but the heart of his story begins in January 1944 when British and Indian troops, under the command of General Slim, launched their offensive into Arakan as part of the overall plan to retake Burma from the Japanese.
The author writes of the fierce battle that follows in a well-written style that makes it not only interesting but dramatic and compelling, reading. Leaving nothing out, he takes the reader through a desperate and harrowing situation - fighting a fanatical enemy in terrifying jungle conditions, often at night in pitch darkness, while trying to combat a tiredness almost beyond human endurance. It is a personal, well written story describing not only the battle to retake Burma, but the often personal and sometimes humorous incidents along the way.
