DEDICATION OF A NEW MEMORIAL TO THE ROYAL NORFOLK REGIMENT, THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT AND THE CAMBRIDGESHIRE REGIMENT

At the National Memorial Arboretum on the 30th September 2010 .

The Royal Anglian Regiment have been fund raising this past year to erect a Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in memory of a ll those who served in the three Regiments, The Royal Norfolk Regiment, The Suffolk Regiment and The Cambridgeshire Regiment.

This Memorial was unveiled on a beautiful sunny day on the 30th September. It is situated to the left and slightly behind the Thai/Burma railway on the Fepow site.

The Memorial comprises mainly of three large granite blocks, bearing the insignias of each regiment. One granite block in the centre bears the battle honours of the three Regiments. Either side, and slightly in front of this granite block there are two granite plinths—one for the Royal Norfolk's and the other for both the Cambridgeshire Regiment and the Suffolk Regiment. Two stone seats are situated on either side of the memorial

The service, taken by Father Ken Reeve, began with the laying of The Colours of The 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment on the Drums. Each memorial was unveiled in turn by Major General JB Dye CBE MC DL. following a valediction to each one.

Eight COFEPOW members travelled to the Arboretum by coach with members of the Royal Anglian Regiment. The event was very well supported with many other coaches from different parts of East Anglian, plus many people who travelled individually. Following the Service there was a super spread of tea, sandwiches and a wide variety of cakes served in the marquee.

The coach on which the COFEPOW members travelled with the Royal Anglian Regiment then left for a local hotel where we enjoyed our evening dinner in their company before returning home the following day.
