Mrs Beatrice Smith is organising a rededication of a memorial to her late husband and son at Colchester Cemetery. Reginald Lionel Smith was serving with the Middlesex Regiment in Hong Kong when captured by the Japanese on Christmas Day 1941 aged 19. He died 22.6.12 and is buried in Colchester Cemetery. Their son, Kenneth Richard Smith was killed by a landmine on 8.6.74 while serving with Australian SAS in Rhodesia (Now Zimbabwe)and is also buried in Colchester Cemetery.
Beatrice is confined to a wheel chair and is not planning any form of reception afterwards but she would really appreciate a bigger attendance but did not know how to gather others who would be interested.
Therefore, the trustees are reaching out to this amazing community to see if there are any former Middlesex Regiment members in the Colchester area that would like to attend this memorial.
