As mentioned in the last issue of the COFEPOW newsletter, due to the restrictions that the Data Protection Laws impose it is difficult for us to contact anybody who may be interested in our group. Being one of the few FEPOW Associations left in the country, we are keen to keep alive the memory of those who were civilian or military prisoners in the Far East Theatre of War in WWII. Many of our fellow associations have folded through lack of support, which may be due in part to relatives not being aware of their existence.
Our group is very proud to have a surviving FEPOW as our Hon. Chairman who has just spent time with journalists,TV producers and an MP fighting to have his forgotten comrades remembered nationally on the 75th Anniversary of the Surrender next year – yes still battling after all these years. Although most of us are from the Greater Birmingham area, we also have members who live outside the area, who meet up with us when they can. Between us we have a vast reservoir of knowledge and stories of that time which we are happy to share.
We are an informal, friendly group meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the Holiday Inn,Smallbrook Queensway, Birmingham B5 4EW at 12 noon. The hotel is right by New Street Railway Station and only a ten minute walk from Moor Street Railway Station, so is easily accessible.
If you would like more information or are interested in joining a group, who have the same background/interest, please contact me, Margaret Walton (Treasurer) at firstname.lastname@example.org Barbara James (Secretary) at email@example.com .
