Dear relatives and interested parties, First of all, we want to wish you all a prosperous and above all a healthy 2021.
We would like to inform you about the current state of affairs regarding the Nagasaki monument and the website http://fukuoka14b.org Nagasaki
Memorial:
The board has frequent contact and consultation with the Dutch Embassy in Japan about the ceremonial unveiling of the monument, which is scheduled for May 4, 2021. Currently, the Japanese government has further tightened the entry restrictions and there will even be a declaration of a state of emergency. So there will probably still be many restrictions in May, which means that the ceremonial unveiling of the monument will be difficult or impossible.
That is why it was decided to postpone the ceremonial unveiling again. As a board we understand that this is again a huge disappointment for many who would like to be present.
Nevertheless, we also have good news to report. As it now looks like, the monument will be there on May 4, 2021. According to Japanese tradition, there will be a "dedication" of the monument on that day. In consultation with the Japanese Committee and the Kizuna Committee here in the Netherlands, we want to try to witness this through a live stream connection. As soon as we know through which medium this will take place, we will inform you about this.
Because we have now unfortunately had to postpone the official ceremonial unveiling 2x, we are waiting to schedule a new date. If there is a view of the possibilities of entering Japan, we will plan a new date in consultation with all parties.
Website:
Since our website http://fukuoka14b.org went online on August 9, 2020, it has already been viewed by more than 10,000 visitors worldwide. We have received many positive reports about this, which we are very happy with. We are now working on further adapting and improving the website. The above information about planning unveiling monument will also be communicated via the website. Keep an eye on the website for the latest news.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for the website, please let us know.
On behalf of the board of the Monument Nagasaki Foundation, we stay with kind regards,
Rob Schouten and Ruud van Kraaij
